I captured this image in November 2018 during one of our many visits to this magnificent place. The location boasts some amazing trees, and as a tree enthusiast, I was particularly captivated. Over the course of two consecutive days, heavy rain, thunder, and strong winds prevailed. When the rain finally subsided, we ventured into the forest. About 15 minutes into our walk, I noticed a beautiful, solitary tree standing at the edge of a cliff.
This tree is both massive and old, prompting contemplation about the countless storms and winds it has weathered over its lifetime. Despite the challenges, it remains standing strong. This reflection inspired the title I gave to the image. Fortunately, the sun had begun to emerge from the clouds, casting a beautiful light on the scene.
Valia Calda is one of the biggest National park in Greece and is included in the 11 protected areas of the EU-wide network of NATURA 2000. It has also some of the oldest trees in the European area, with some trees being more than 700 years old.
