Dolomites Photography Workshop, 03-08 June 2019
Duration: 6 days, 5 nights
Dolomites are one of the most beautiful mountains in the World. They have such diversity from jagged peaks, alpine hills and lakes, mountain tops. They are even named the Patagonia of Europe. Any time of the year you visit Dolomites you will be amazed. In early summer all snow from the winter has melted and the fields are full of blossom flowers.
Join us to our workshop to this amazing place to experience the beauty of it. To see it with your own eyes and feel it with all your senses. Live an unforgettable experience and increase your photography skills and your portfolio at the same time.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Our workshop in the Dolomites is based in two locations. This gives us the chance to cover a big variety of the amazing landscapes and lakes of the Dolomites and minimizes the need for constant relocation to different hotels throughout the days of the workshop.
At the beginning we are staying for 3 days in the eastern side of the Dolomites at Cortina d'Ampezzo. From here we'll have the chance to shoot the majestic peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, both in sunset and night and also explore deeper in the area up to Locatelli hut. We shoot the amazing Lago di Adorno in the morning light, with the peaks of the Tre Cime reflected in its waters. We'll shoot the most renowned and photographed lake of the dolomites the Lago di Braies and also the beautiful Lago Limides. We shoot the beautiful Passo Giau in sunrise and finally we'll visit the small gem of the Dolomites the Lago di Carezza.
For the 2 last days we are staying at Val Gardena area, near Ortisei, at the western side of the Dolomites. From here we'll shoot the Europe’s largest high alpine meadow the Alpe di Siusi with the massif rock formations of Sassolungo around it. We visit the Val di Funes and shoot the graphical and beautiful church of San Giovanni and the area around the village of Santa Maddalena.
Early June is a great season to visit Dolomites for many reasons. The nature is full of color, all lakes are full of water from the recently melted snow, and all fields are full of wildflowers. The places are quieter with less people and more peaceful, since the summer tourist period has not started yet. The weather is not that cold but some of the highest peaks, may have remaining patches of snow.
In our workshops we do everything we can so you can maximize your opportunities of capturing great photos. We know the area well and will take you to some of the most beautiful locations of the Dolomites at the right time of day. We'll be near you on the field to help you and provide guidance and support if you want to. Note that the workshop is open to all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, so not everyone has the same needs, but you have nothing to worry about. Also having 2 professional landscape photographers in the field helps us to ensure that anyone of the participants gets all the help or support he or she wishes to.
The dates that we'll spent at each of our bases is fixed however the time that we visit each location can be flexible depending on the weather contitions and the light. However we'll make sure we shoot all the areas mentioned below during our workshop.
● Tre Cime di Lavaredo
● Lago di Adorno
● Lago di Braies
● Lago di Limides
● Passo Giau
● Lago di Carezza
● Alpe di Siusi
● The churches of San Giovanni and Santa Maddalena, in Val di Funes.
Day 1 (June 3)
We will pick you up at the airport of Venice (Marco Polo) in the morning no later than 12:00 am. We meet and saying hello to each other. After that we start our drive through the Dolomites. Our first base for the first 3 days will be in Cortina d' Ampezzo. It is about 2.30 hours drive to reach to Cortina so expect to be there at about 14.30. After check in and some rest at our hotel we are leaving for our first shooting location at the spectacular peaks of Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
We will walk around the base of the Tre Cime to shoot the magnificent peaks from a lower vintage point during the sunset and the last light of the day. After the sunset shoot we will return to our hotel for dinner. During dinner we'll have the chance to get to know each other better while enjoining some of the great food of the local cuisine.
Day 2 (June 4)
On our first morning we shoot the sunrise at lake Antorno. This is a beautiful alpine lake which offers some great photo opportunities. During the sunrise the Tre Cime peaks are illuminated by the sun and are reflected in the waters of the lake. After the sunrise shooting we return to the hotel for breakfast. We will have a short rest for a few hours before our first processing session.
During our first post-processing session we will see how to get the most out of the images we took using Lightroom and Photoshop.
After the session we will have lunch and then we will leave again for Tre Cime. This time we'll go upper into the mountain until the Refugio Locatelli where we will spent all afternoon. We'll have the chance to get to know better the area and find a good location for the sunset. After the sunset we will go back to Refugio Auronzo and have dinner at the restaurant. After dinner, if the sky is clear, we will shoot the stars and the milky way above the Tre Cime peaks.
Day 3 (June 5)
On our second morning shoot we are heading to Lago Limides to shoot the sunrise at this beautiful lake. We spend the morning shooting from various spots and after that we are going back to the hotel for breakfast.
After some rest to our rooms we'll have our second post-processing session. Again this session will be tailored to your needs. When the session finishes we'll have lunch at the restaurant and take it easy for a couple of hours. For this afternoon we are heading to the most known lake and the most photographed one of the Dolomites, the beautiful Lago di Braies. With it's turquoise waters, the boat house and the beautiful scenery around it offers some great photographic opportunities all around the lake.
Day 4 (June 6)
On day 4 we have an early rise and visit the Passo Giau to capture the sunrise and the first light of sun illuminating the beautiful peaks reflected in the lake. After the shoot we return to our hotel for breakfast. At 10 o clock we take our stuff and check out from the hotel for our final base, which will be near Ortisei. We will stay there for the next days. On our way there we will make a stop to photograph the small gem of the Dolomites, the Lago di Carezza.
At the afternoon we will visit the Alp di Siusi, to shoot the sunset at this magnificent plateau. The beauty of the Alpe di Siusi area is legendary. It's Europe’s largest high alpine meadow, with beautiful wooden huts and pine trees and the large peaks of Lankofel and Platkofel behind them. There are so many spots for great photos here and we'll have a lot of time to find the composition we like the most before sunset. After the shoot we'll have dinner at a restaurant in town.
Day 5 (June 7)
On our 5th day for the morning shoot we are visiting again Alpe di Siusi, this time to photograph it in a completely different light. Very often, this time of the year, the vast meadow is covered by morning mist, giving a mystical look to the valley as the sun rises behind the Sassolungo. We'll take our time here as the morning light offers some unique photo opportunities at this place. Right after the shoot we'll go for coffee and breakfast to the town.
After we return to the hotel we'll have our final post-processing session and cover all the techniques we have learned so far to take the most out of our images.
For sunset we are visiting Val di Funes, shooting the beautiful San Giovanni church located right in front of the Odle/Geisler mountain massif as it's illuminated be the last rays of sun. After shooting we'll have our last dinner together as the workshop has come to an end. During dinner we'll have a change to share our experiences and thoughts of this magnificent place and of the workshop and leave away with great memories and new friends.
